unstrung.com に、エンタープライズ市場向けの MIMO 無線 LAN (802.11n) に関する記事が立て続けに出ていました。
最初に出たのが、無線 LAN スイッチベンダーである Aruba Wireless Networks が MIMO 機器ベンダーである Ruckus Wireless と 802.11n プロダクトの開発に関して提携したという記事。

Ruckus Wireless Inc. and Aruba Wireless Networks are teaming up to develop high-speed WiFi products for carriers that want to offer managed wireless LAN services to both business customers and consumers.<中略>
Aruba won't release 802.11n products before the standard is released in 2007, but its current wireless LAN controllers will be able to control Ruckus 802.11g access points by the end of the year. Separately, Ruckus plans to extend its BeamFlex signal-steering technology to a draft version of 802.11n, making it available by the end of 2006.
この記事によると、Aruba / Ruckus の 802.11n 対応は次の３つのフェーズに分かれている様子。
１．2006 年末までに、Aruba のコントローラで Ruckus の 802.11g 対応アクセスポイントを制御可能にする
２．2006 年末までに、Ruckus は 802.11n ドラフトに対応する
３．2007 年には、Aruba のコントローラで、Ruckus の 802.11n 対応のアクセスポイントを制御可能にする（？）
ちなみに、この Ruckus は Cisco Systems が買収するかも、という噂のあったベンチャー企業。
続いて出たのが、Aruba 同様に Cisco Systems も MIMO 対応の準備を進めている、という憶測記事。

Cisco Systems Inc. plans to introduce a modular high-speed wireless LAN networking access point by the end of the year to address the needs of customers wanting faster corporate WiFi networks, industry sources tell Unstrung.<中略>
An industry source says Cisco now has a strategy in place that he describes as a "migration path" to 802.11n. "Cisco is addressing the needs of corporate America, which is screaming out for higher bandwidth," he says.
"They're moving fast on this," the source tells Unstrung. He suggests that Cisco will have product by the end of the year.
So what is this strategy? Another industry source suggests that Cisco is working on a modular access point that will initially support current 802.11a/g standards but be upgradeable to 802.11n with a radio swap. Yet another source says that this modular MIMO radio could be, ahh, sourced from chipmaker Marvell Technology Group Ltd.
この記事によると、Cisco の 802.11n 対応は、802.11n 対応可能なモジュール型アクセスポイントを先行して発売し、後から 802.11n モジュールを提供するというもの。ちなみに 802.11n モジュールは Marvell Technology からの提供ではないかと予想されている、と。
これらを読んでいて思ったのですが、MIMO ということは、端末側でも対応が必要なわけです。こうしてインフラ機器の準備が進むのは良いですが、端末側の対応は進んでいるのでしょうか？Intel は WiMAX にずいぶん力を入れているようですが……
