日本だと W-ZERO3 で skype を利用できますが、 Mobile Venture News によると、米国では EQO という既存の携帯電話で skype を利用することができる、すこし激しいサービスが登場してきているようです。
この EQO、ユーザーは skype のコンタクトリストのオンライン／オフラインを携帯から確認できたり、リストに登録されているコンタクトへの voicecall が携帯電話から可能です。
EQO Mobile Internet Phone Service: How It Works
EQO is a plugin which runs on your computer, connecting your Skype™ user account to your mobile phone via our secure, always-on network. Once you've installed EQO on your PC, EQO will ask you a few questions about your mobile phone and we'll take care of the rest by configuring the mobile phone application and sending it to your phone automatically. You can then install it with only a few clicks.
ただし、
From there, as long as EQO is running on your mobile phone and your computer, and Skype™ is still connected to the Skype™ network, you can easily use our software to keep in touch with your buddies as you move about on your mobile phone.
ということなので、自分が利用している skype は立ち上げっぱなしにしておく必要があるようです。
ダウンロードページによると対応している携帯電話メーカーは次の通り。
Audiovox Motorola Nokia Palm RIM (BlackBerry) Samsung Siemens Sony Ericsson
試してみたいのですが、どれもこれも日本ではなかなか見かけない機種ばかり。だれか、試してレポートしてもらえると非常に嬉しい限りです。

残念ながら僕が購入したTreo 700w はまだサポートしてないのでサポート次第人柱になります。

Thanks for letting me know EQO can work with Japanese. I'll let my friends who live in the US know this and urge to use EQO :-)
But, unfortunately, any Japanese cell phone provided by such as NTT DoCoMo, KDDI/au and Softbank Japan (formerly Vodafone Japan) is not supported by EQO, I can not use it in Japan (T_T)
